Town of St George

The Town of St George is a World Heritage Site. St. George's was founded in 1612 and served as the capital of Bermuda until responsibility switched to Hamilton in 1815. There are many old, colonial streets and buildings such as 'Featherbed Alley', 'Old Maid's Lane' or 'Needle and Thread Alley'.

King's Square in the middle of the Town of St George has the Town Hall and the Visitor's Service Bureau. The Town Hall has served as meeting place since 1805. Ordinance Island is across the small bridge to the south.

During the main tourist season actors in period dress act as town criers or sentencing men or women to the stockades, pillories or the dunking chair.
